The obit's title is "Lord Silsoe: Leading counsel in public enquiries" and the piece mentions him as "A man of extreme modesty". I can vivdly picture him scribbling away his notes on the back of "scrap" paper, working away quietly. The summary of his CV is: David Malcom Trustram Eve, barrister: born London 2 May 1930; called to the Bar, Inner Temple l955 Bar Auditor l965--70; QC 1972; succeeded 1976 as second Baron Silsoe; married 1963 Bridget Hart-Davis (one son, one daughter); died Reading 3l December 2005. | | [267kB] | David Silsoe obituary 10 January 2006 The Independent 1bit mono 1 DHD.tif (People) - david silsoe = David Malcolm Trustram Eve, Lord Silsoe QC, 2nd Baron Silsoe
This obit was cited from the "Sweet Swan of Kennet" blog: An Empty Space:
A new term began last night for my Russian class. It wasn't a happy reunion
though. One of us was missing.
David Silsoe
died on New Year's Eve, of pancreatic cancer. Nobody was much interested in
Russian. We wanted to talk about David. I haven't been with the class long.
Most of the others had known him longer because they had been together for two
years before this one. Still, David was somebody you remember. He was very
intelligent, for a start, but he didn't flaunt it. He was [gentle] and kind and
eager to help. He was the one who cheerfully gave me a lift home after each
class, even though it took him out of his way back to Rotherfield Peppard, and
was good company on the way I wasn't the only one who hadn't realised he was
a Lord and had been an eminent QC before his retirement. If he specialised in
things that I would have fiercely opposed, that does nothing to diminish
him. The world is diminished without him.

This appeared in the online edition of The Times of London: Silk prized for his skill in handling controversial planning cases ONE OF the country's top planning silks, David Trustram Eve appeared at numerous important development inquiries. These included the Windscale inquiry into the Thorp reprocessing plant in 1977 and the Heathrow fifth terminal inquiry, which ran from 1995 until 1999. Trustram Eve's skill in handling complex, controversial issues was greatly valued by the advocates of nuclear power projects and airport expansion schemes.
