About This CategoryThis collection is of free images/photos/pictures, sounds, videos, etc from science, technology and nature, including birds, animals and plants, and some from the fields of chemistry, physics and biology. Some exhibits that could be in here may be found in collections with a more specific remit, such as "Flowers" and "Leaves and Greenery". This is intended to serve, in part, as a teachers' and students' resource. See also New Scientist for the latest news, The Register's science and tech stories, the EurekAlert!/AAAS Multimedia Gallery, and BioImages - Virtual Field-Guide (UK) for scholarly info. Also, for attempts to catalogue all known species, see: the Encyclopedia of Life, and Barcode of Life. If you're a journo or other non-scientist and need help with a science fact or story, please consider talking to Sense About Science to help you. - squirrel = squirrels, sciurine, sciurid, Sciuridae, Rodentia, tree squirrel, arboreal rodent, ardilla, écureuil, Eichhörnchen, ekorre, esquilo, 松鼠

Bruno says:
Grey squirrels are native from North America (and should therefore be
called `gray squirrels') and have been imported to the British Isles.
Being larger, swifter and generally more competitive than the local
species or red squirrels, while living in the same habitat, they have
now taken over most places red squirrels used to occupy. Indeed, while
walking through London's parks and gardens, one can see dozens of grey
squirrels but not a single red one. Those ``city squirrels'' are well
used to people and will readilly come and eat out of a hand offering
nuts, salted snacks or other delicacies and might even consider the hand
itself as suitable to bite into. | | squirrel grey in Hyde Park London England 2 BG.jpg (Natural Science)- squirrel = squirrels, sciurine, sciurid, Sciuridae, Rodentia, tree squirrel, arboreal rodent, ardilla, écureuil, Eichhörnchen, ekorre, esquilo, 松鼠
