Khufu had three wives, and there are three small pyramids flanking the great pyramid. Nothing is known about two of the wives, but the third was his sister, Merites.

The oddly shaped structure in front of the pyramid is the Museum of the Solar Boat. It contains a 43m 'solar boat' (a boat used in the Pharoe's funeral rites) which was reassembled from the original parts found in a pit by the pyramid. Pits for five such boats have been found around the pyramid.
