Thanks to Andreas W. Riexinger for pointing out that we had this wrongly named Hohenzollern castle:
The correct name is "Hohenschwangau", Hohenzollern was the family that [ruled] Prussia, Bavaria's arch-enemy.Whoops!
Visit what I take to be the official site, which says:
1832--1836: Crown prince Maximilian of Bavaria had the ruin of Schwanstein Castle ... rebuilt in neo-Gothic style. This is where King Ludwig II spent his childhood.
