The famous sign encountered walking north from Kreuzberg up Friedrichstraße into East Berlin, at Checkpoint Charlie, still standing in August 1997. Look at all the building work behind the sign regenerating what was derelict. Immediately behind the sign is work on a new wired and `Web'ed office complex called ``Checkpoint Charlie.''
