brass = alloy, metal = Alloy of copper (Cu) and zinc (Zn), usually about 67:33, with small amounts of other metals. Noted for its hardness and workability, brass also resists tarnishing and is similar in colour to gold, and so is often used decoratively (eg "horse brasses").
