The British Dragonfly Society very kindly provided us with an ID of our hasty snaps: The photos [...] show, I believe, Common Blue Damselflies. The quality and definition of the photos is not good enough to be absolutely sure of the id. This species is very widespread and common on almost all ponds and lakes in Britain.
