Some years ago I took quite a few of these because I was doing a course at the OU on geology and we were sent some thin sections to look at. [...]
The depth of field was a fraction of a mm and so these things, although they look OK when projected on a wall, are not pin sharp. These are 35mm by the way, and approx. life size, that is, the slide is just slightly larger than the specimen.
